This past weekend I accepted my nomination to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
I kind of figured that the nomination would eventually catch up with me.
It reminded me of my time in grade school, where I’d avoid eye contact with the teacher, hoping not to be called upon.
Like that, I steered clear of liking other’s challenges and definitely avoided commenting on them.
And it did catch up to me with a nomination from an old roommate of mine.
For the next day, I was consumed with thoughts on how and where I was going to do this thing.
But in the end, it turned out to be a great time and one that I really wouldn’t want to have missed.
By that I mean, this epic success of a viral campaign is so groundbreaking that I’m really glad I played my tiny part in it. Missing out would have been a shame.
In the end it’s just cold water, which during Hong Kong’s summer is a real treat! Especially when you compare that splash of water to what those with ALS go through.
Before this ice bucket challenge I’d only heard of ALS through it’s other name Lou Gehrig’s disease. However I had no idea what it was.
Now I do.
This campaign has done a lot more than raise awareness. Last time I checked, http://www.alsa.org, it showed that 80 million dollars was donated!
Truly amazing and people all over the world are now racking their brains trying to think of the next great internet campaign.
Did you take part in the challenge?
If so, we’re you more scared of the water of putting yourself on video?
It’s good to get the blog back up and running!! Thanks for reading!! Hopefully we’ll have some fun and thought provoking blogs for you. Your feedback and comments are always appreciated!!
Check out my ALS Ice Bucket Challenge below!
Cheers!
