heartIt’s that time of year again! Valentines Day!

Whether you love it or hate, I’m sure you’ll agree that it has a rich history.

Here are my 5 favourite Valentines Day facts for you to sink your sweet tooth into!

1. 220,000 is the average number of proposals on Valentines Day.

2. Over 1 billion dollars worth of chocolate is purchased in the U.S. on Valentines Day alone.

3. In the U.S., 15% of women send flowers to themselves on Valentines Day.

4. The x became the symbol of a kiss because in medieval times, when people could not write even their name, they used to put an X, and then kiss it to prove they were honest.

5. Teachers receive the most Valentines Day cards.

What do you think about Valentines Day? Do you love it or hate it? Let me know in the comments below!

And don’t be embarrassed if you’re one of the ladies sending yourself flowers. At least you’re not marrying yourself like the women here http://wp.me/p479NY-1x !!!

Have a good one everybody!

it’s quite embarrassing but i must admit,4 yrs back i bought a bouquet of white roses for MYSELF,that was my first VDay alone as my husband was working overseas. And one thing I hate about VDay,esp in my country(Phils), Feb month is the season for contraceptive commercials on tv. Not just those polyurethanes and latex sheaths seen lon tv screens, motels or hotels or lodging inns are offering check-in promos for lovers, couples and for all those who are engaged in bedroom activities. they’re even distributing leaflets to spread the “good news”. The Dept of Health team are also distributing free “rubber” in public. Well i have nothing against those rubbers, the thing is,in our phil calendar,Feb14 is a legal holiday.Only few of the government offices and very few establishments are functioning, and majorities of universities and secondary schools or even the primary declare “no class” because it’s VDay! But as for my observation, most of the people aren’t spending quality time with their families on that significant date, they’re out grabbing the motel’s check-in promos with free rubbers on the table…and the worst part, they’re also grabbing the wrong mates inside;) and guess who’s the luckiest? the manufacturer of those “rubbers”;)
    happy valentines!

    Hi Che,

I see nothing wrong with buying yourself flowers! Completely normal, just like buying a drink. Sending yourself flowers and acting surprised and delighted in receiving them is a different issue…;)

Companies are always going to try making as much $$$ as they can during the holidays. Very interesting to see the condom companies attacking V-day. Makes sense really…;)

I’m surprised we’re not seeing massive pics of vibrators plastered on buses here in HK…
    Maybe someday…;)

    Thanks for sharing!!;)
